Main Street Merchants wants to give a shout out to all those involved in First Thursdays on Main: S&S Art Supplies, Tapp’s Art Center, Paradise Ice, Mast General Store, Grapes and Gallery, Weddings 101, Something Special Florist, Anastasia & Friends, Wine Down on Main, Cowboys, the Columbia Museum of Art Shop, and Frame of Mind. And to all those who attend the monthly events, we can’t thank you enough. You are the reason/s that they keep happening.
Since First Thursday is not a budgeted event (meaning there is no money coming from any source), the merchants of Main Street choose to pull together by each giving their own little mini party on the same night. While this has a seemingly unfortunate drawback of feeling slightly uncoordinated (actually it has a more grassroots feel), it has allowed us to have a “larger” event and to work with the many artists and performers who you see either inside a location or on the street. The artists and performers do their thing for the love of the community and out of passion for their chosen art form. We must commend every performer and artist you’ve seen out at First Thursdays for truly giving of themselves. We just can not thank them enough.
The merchants all continue to push the boundaries and “up” your expectations. As this is written, there are plans in the works to expand the “normal” First Thursdays, to blow up December with a truly unique Mingle and Jingle event, and to attack July 4th next year (yes First Thursday in July 2013 is 4th of July).
What can you do to help First Thursdays on Main to it grow? How can you show your support?
Attending. Bringing your friends with you when you attend. Telling everybody who you know about the experiences that you have here. Buying food and drink from those providing it. Buying some art while here. Tipping any of the “street” performers that you see and love.
